Hi Jake,

If you're seeing "no iOS device found", most of the time the issue is the USB cable.

First, lets get Windows to see the iPhone:

On the iPhone itself, unlock the phone screen and see if you're presented with a prompt to either Trust or Allow the PC to connect. If you do see that prompt, tap to Trust/Allow - and you should be prompted to enter your iPhone's passcode to confirm the choice. Enter your passcode to confirm.

In the Windows search bar type File Explorer and select the File Explorer app search result.

In the left side of the window, click on the This PC item.

When Windows can see the iPhone connected, it should appear in this "This PC" section of File Explorer.

If you have more than one USB port on different sides of the PC, please try changing to the other side of the PC.

If you are plugged in via a USB hub, please try connecting directly to the PC instead of through the USB hub.

If you have a second iPhone cable, please try changing the cable as well to see if that helps the iPhone connect to the PC. Sometimes the issue is that the cable being used is a charge-only cable and does not transmit data.

I bought this recently for my window laptop but when I connect my iPhone it said no iOS device found. I tried downloading iTunes but even iTunes can’t pick up my iPhone 17 what’s the problem

Hi Laura,

Absolutely you can use your phone while the backup is running. Please just be sure not to tug on the phone in a way that will loosen/jostle/disconnect the USB cable connection.

Yes, you can try as many passwords as you want trying to restore the backup in iTunes, or read the backup in any of our tools.

There's no attempt count limitation in either. The attempts are only "limited" by the fact that to do the math to check the password, it takes several seconds in any software.

I can't speak to magfone since it's not our software and I haven't tried it. I don't see anything on their website about their software figuring out iPhone backup passwords though.

There is an option in Decipher Backup Browser to get the hashcat string for guessing passwords with the tool hashcat also. But setting up hashcat on windows can be a bit of a pain. I would recommend first just guessing simple passwords using iTunes or our software.

Are you wanting to restore that backup, or just turn off encrypted backups/change the backup password on your current phone?

OMG I totally can't remember that I have checked the encrypted backup in iTunes and can't figure out the iTunes backup password 😅 Tried everything to remember it, but nothing worked. Can I try the password in Decipher and iTunes without the attempt limitation? And maybe this work on magfone?

I will be upgrading phones when the next gen of iphones come out. So need to ask if i us on license for my wife's phone, and one for my current, how can i remove (with out losing the data), my current phone then swap it with the new one. (sorry for the miss spellings, voice wreck, is not very good).

That is an excessive amount of time to be seeing the "committing new additions"! We replied to your email, and it's probably better to discuss your specifics there, but are you using an external drive (or network storage drive) for your Decipher TextMessage storage?

If it's still stuck, let us know. If you're using an external drive, the first thing we'll want to check is if the external/network drive disconnected.

It says finished importing, this is my first backup but it has been stuck at committing new additions all night. The blue bar is almost completed but it stays at that point.

I just added my new iPhone 17 Pro and did a backup, but I cannot find the most recent text messages. I have search for the specific name of the person and it only pulls group texts, not direct text messages between the person and myself. What do I need to do?

This was a very helpful post, thank you.

I did not realise an arm64 specific minidriver was required, and could not get my (certum-based) certificate working on arm64 Windows, presumably for this reason.

Sadly, there appears to be a bug in Certum’s macOS pkcs#11 module causing my 3072-bit key’s signatures to be truncated to 128 bytes (instead of 384 bytes), so i can’t use osslcodesign on macOS either. Windows shows the certificate of the signed file but also says “No signature was present in the subject”. osslcodesign verify says:

Certum's (x86_64 only) linux pkcs#11 module does appear to generate full 384 byte signatures, and Windows accepts the signature, so I guess I’ll be using that unless and until I can persuade Certum to fix their bug.

How many characters are required in the whatsapp end to to end encrypted password?

Does it require :
1) a capital letter?
2) number?
3) special characters?
4) how many in total?

An iPhone backup password is completely different than the end-to-end WhatsApp backup password set up in WhatsApp, unfortunately.

The password for the WhatsApp end-to-end encrypted backup is a password or passkey set up when end-to-end encrypted backups were turned on in the WhatsApp app.

Hello,
am new here. Appreciate your effort in answering people’s questions.
Could you please let me know what needs to be done in this scenario?
I have forgotten the encryption password key for whatsapp which has been backed up on iCloud. When trying to restore whatsapp from ICloud, it’s asking for the encryption password or the key.
I have not set up any key.
after how many incorrect password attempts would it wipe off my data from iCloud?
You mentioned trying to check the password unlimited times from decipher website, if that is the correct password when you enter it on decipher website, would it give a prompt that it is the correct password ?
How do you proceed to restore the backup if you are entering the correct password in the decipher website in that case?
Are there any otter things which can be done?
